Anastasia Hasikou

Anastasia Hasikou holds a PhD in Music from City, University of London, where was awarded the Newby Trust award for academic excellence. Her doctoral thesis focuses on the social history of music in Cyprus during the British colonialism. She graduated from ARTE Music Academy in 2005 and she continued her studies at Middlesex University acquiring a BA in Music (1st class), in piano performance pathway. She has also studied in the University of Cyprus (2001-2005) where she acquired a BA in Social and Political Science. She has a PGCE in Music which includes practical training and professional experience in music teaching and an MA in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Music Studies from City, University of London. She also holds the PGCert in Performance Teaching (Distinction) from Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

She has published in the Sage Encyclopedia of Music and Culture as well as the Athens Journal of Humanities and Arts and the Zbornik radova Akademije umetnosti. She is also a contributor in the book Music in Cyprus edited by Jim Samson and Nicoletta Demetriou. She has lectured on a wide range of topics such as Sociology of Music, Ethnomusicology, Traditional Music and Music Pedagogy. She has an active participation in academic conferences and seminars in Cyprus and abroad. She has achieved the status of Fellow of “The Higher Education Academy” in recognition of attainment against the UK Professional Standards Framework for teaching and learning support in higher education. From 2009 she has been a member of academic faculty of ARTE Music Academy in Nicosia.
