ALISON BRODIE
CREATIVE PLACEMAKERS - DIRECTOR
Ali is an experienced creative producer, project manager, and artistic programmer with over fifteen years’ experience leading complex projects across the commercial, subsidised and local authority sectors. She devises, curates and produces art-led creative interventions, festivals and professional development. Originally from Fife (Scotland), she has worked and collaborated across the UK and Europe throughout her career. Her background is in theatre, opera and live performance, and her experience covers UK large-scale touring, international fringe circuits and ground-breaking participatory performance. She has championed accessibility, fair work and a focus on audience and artist needs throughout her career.
Most recently Alison led the national delivery of Curated Place’s Cultural Business Development Programme for Creative Scotland and the Scottish Government, working with senior cultural leaders across Scotland on income diversification, business resilience, and strategic development. As a trainer, mentor and session leader for Curated Placeʼs international
professional development programmes, she has also delivered Curated Place’s Creative Producer training programme internationally and played a key role in the artistic development and operational delivery of NOVUM Newcastle and SPECTRA Aberdeen.
She worked for a number of years with Prague Fringe and in key roles for both The Marlowe Theatre in Kent and Curve, Leicester. She worked for Birmingham Opera Company, an organisation committed to making Opera accessible, honing her skills in hyper-local, multi-agency community engagement and the organisation’s unique participatory model as well as finding a skill and passion for delivering high-quality work in “non-traditional” spaces. She has worked in partnership with, and for, local authorities in both rural and urban contexts, with a focus on regeneration and placemaking.
A Politics graduate of the University of Strathclyde and an alumna of Manchester Business Schoolʼs Innovation Retreat, she combines strategic analysis with a practical understanding of how artistic projects are delivered on the ground.
