Our very own Martyna Daniel took the stage at the University of Iceland to speak at the ANFINN Conference on Autism and Neurodiversity reFraming Innovation.
She shared her team's creative approach, their transnational collaboration and the thinking behind the film, currently in pre-production, a short work exploring neurodivergent identities in Icelandic landscapes, where a yawn becomes the main character. Spreading from human to human, sometimes noticed, sometimes not, the yawn in YAWN functions as forced empathy in a system that offers none, disturbing the mood of efficiency, exposing the fragility of spaces designed to suppress rest, stimming, and sensation. Resistance, contagion, sensory regulation. Something intimate that has the power to bring us elsewhere.
ANFINN is a neurodivergent-led action research project exploring new kinds of creative and collaborative spaces, bringing together practitioners to play, create, think, and promote change across arts and academia. Exactly the kind of space YAWN belongs in
