This is a paid opportunity for EU or Balkan based researchers, writers, poets, songwriters, playwrights or librettists to join a creative team exploring language as identity in Ireland.
What we are looking for
At the edges of Europe languages meet, morph and both make & break communities. The first Sonic Bridges film will explore how languages mingling at the edges of europe are used to both include and exclude.
This is an opportunity for an EU or Balkan based writer to create a spoken word or sung piece for the 10-13 minute film being created as the output for the first MCSB commission in collaboration with a film maker and composer in Ireland. the use of personal, official and unofficial archives is encouraged rooting the storytelling in lived experience of the changing power of language in relation to changing location
Details of this opportunity
Approx 10 day residency in Ireland over two visits.
dates Are not fixed and will be agreed following selection, other than late 2025/2026 working with creative team
Film finalised by Spring 2027
Artist Fee: EUR3000 + travel expenses and accommodation + production budget
This project focuses particularly on narratives of minority or immigrating languages, and so we encourage applications from artists with lived experience.

About MCSB
Building on the 2014-2016 Creative Europe project ‘Moving Classics’ & the 2018-2022 “Sonic Flux” our new project Moving Classics: Sonic Bridges (MCSB) is a project that will be creatively inspired by the Skopje 2028 theme ‘Culture over Diversity”. Working with personal testimony, original music and AV/Film installations It will connect Writers, musicians and AV/Film artists with our production teams to explore modern European identity at the edges.
The Project will create 10 hybrid sonic & visual experiences (art films, projections) enabling musicians and artists from all corners of Europe to work with diverse ethnographers, visual storytellers and communities along with the Project Partners and their creative teams. The films will be published by creative placemakers and presented at project partner events and our festival networks.

- confirm your eligibility as resident in a Creative europe country
- Outline your previous collaborative experiences
- Explain your interest in language as a barrier and bond in the irish context and your APPROACH
- explain why this is a good opportunity now
- provide examples of your previous written and/or recorded works
